CONCORDE AND THE RED ARROWS

On a number of important occasions Concorde has teamed up with the Red Arrows for a formation fly past.

1973
Concorde’s first formation flight with the Red Arrows featured G-AXDN (the British pre-production Concorde 01). The Red Arrows were at the time still using the Folland Gnat aircraft that preceded today’s more familiar Hawk.

1985
Sporting its new British Airways Landor livery, Concorde G-BOAG flew with the Red Arrows on both days of the Royal International Air Tatoo. The Sunday formation flight included a trip out to the English Channel where Concorde and the Red Arrows did a fly past for the QE2. This was a publicity photo shoot for Cunard who chartered Concorde on a number of occasions.

1996
On June the 2nd Concorde G-BOAA flew in formation with the Red Arrows over Heathrow to celebrate the airport’s 50th anniversary.

1997
Concorde flies in formation with the Red Arrows over the Wash to celebrate 21 years of commercial Concorde services.

1999
On July the 1st Concorde G-BOAE flew in formation with the Red Arrows over Glasgow and Edinburgh as part of the ceremony at the opening of the Scottish Parliament.

1980
The Red Arrows, in their newly introduced BAe Systems Hawks, flew in formation with Concorde G-BBDG.

2002
To mark the Queen’s Golden Jubilee celebration on the 4th June, a Concorde and Red Arrows formation flew low down the Mall and over Buckingham Palace as part of a multi-aircraft fly past. The Concorde was G-BOAD and was crewed by Chief Concorde Pilot Mike Bannister, Captain Les Brodie and SFO Peter Carrigan. The aircraft formated over the North Sea before flying in over Suffolk. A practice session had been held a few days earlier on May the 29th. This was the last time Concorde and the Red Arrows would ever fly together.
