John Lidiard worked for BOAC / British Airways from 1954 to 1981. He was a Flight Engineer / Instructor / Examiner on the Constellation 749, Standard and Super VC10, the Boeing 747 and Concorde.
John was involved with the development of Concorde from 1965, operating on many test and development flights with British Aerospace. He was on the very first airline assessment flight in 1969 of the prototype French Concorde. John was the Flight Engineer on the first Commercial Supersonic Service, London – Bahrain – London. In 1982 he was awarded the Queens Commendation for Valuable Service in the Air. From 1982 to 1996 John worked for British Aerospace and was instrumental in the development and flight-testing the VC10 tanker conversion.
